Tips for choosing the right travel agent

Posted on 03 January 2018 by admin (0)

Planning a trip is not an easy deal. There’s plenty of factors involved, such as accommodation, airfare, food and activities, and you also need both good contacts and a little bit of luck in order to find a deal or a package that suits your needs. If you’re planning a trip by yourself, you also have to coordinate two, three or even four different things: departure and arrival time, transport to your hotel or resort, length of your stay, and other things.

Luckily for you, there are plenty of travel agents that aim to help people plan their travels, so that travelers don’t have to worry about anything but enjoying the trip. However, since there are many of these agents, you might find these tips for choosing the right one helpful!

Browse before you pick

It’s not a wise choice to pick the first travel agent you stumble upon online or on a travel guide. Make a thorough search and try to list several agents you find interesting, with their contact information and any important reviews if you can find. Make sure you also look for some of the most relevant packages on the destination you’re going to, to know whether you’re getting a good deal  or not with a particular agent and be able to choose upon that.

Pay attention to the fares

Travel agents usually charge a commission, fee or fare for organizing and planning your trip: it’s their job, after all. However, make sure the agent you pick has reasonable fees for their services, because using the services of an agent shouldn’t leave you on a hard financial situation. Ask for cancellation fees, taxes and any other hidden commission they might not be telling you about. If you feel that an agent is charging way too much, don’t hesitate to change to another one, or even try to plan the trip yourself if you decide you want to save on the expenses.

The agent should work for and with you

One relevant thing to note is that the travel agent’s job is to help you plan your trip and assist you in what you need. If you feel like you’re talking to a computer or an automated answering system, then your agent is not doing their job as they should. Look for an agent that actually goes out of their way to help you until you’re satisfied with your travel schedule, and that assists you in a honest and transparent way.

Evaluate the package you’re being offered

Your travel agent will surely offer you certain travel packages or deals that might or might not be what you require. Make sure your agent is actually working towards meeting your expectations regarding the trip, and not just trying to sell you a reduced set of options: most of the time, travel agents receive commissions from hotel chains or airlines if they send them clients, but these plans might not suit you or your trip, so be wary of these offers you might receive!

Look for a reduced response time

You might want to make last minute changes on your trip, or you might want to ask something regarding your hotel room, and it’s no good if your agent replies three days later. Strive to work with a travel agent that gets back to you in a short time to assist you in anything you need!

If you follow these simple tips, you’ll surely find a good travel agent that will make planning your next trip a piece of cake!
